College path and Career Path… It’s the same thing!

In several of my conversations in a school setting, I hear terms like “this kid is on a career path and that kid is on a college path.” They mean very different things in high school talk. My question is why? They are the same thing. They both lead to work. I think we need to redefine how we label students in this way. Everything leads to a career or job. I think all students are labeled as on a “career path” whether they go to college or not. We need to get this outdated idea that all kids go straight to college a rest. We need to get people out of the 1980s mindset that there is one way to succeed. Read the news. Look at the stats. There are a LARGE majority of college grads in SERIOUS DEBT! More than in the housing crash of 08. If we are going to innovate education for all people, we need to change how we do it. We also need to change the cost structure. Some universities are already doing this like www.missionu.com. This trend will continue and if parents at the secondary level keep feeding their students into large outdated colleges and universities, their debt will continue to climb. We will end up making the middle class poorer and basically devastating the lowest economic classes in this country.

There are many blooming post secondary opportunities that are teaching people how to make a living while being cost effective. It’s not just manufacturing and the trades. Corporations are looking for new ideas because they are being attacked by startups who run lean and actually listen to their customers problems. Join the journey with Disrupt Education!
