“Talent in today’s highly competitive environment is clearly recognized as a business differentiator, and the winners will emerge with the right resources at the right time in an increasingly complex, digital business world” – Cindy Keaveney, CPO of Randstad Sourceright

The Concerns

Back in the days, many leaders of great companies around the world still saw talent acquisition as a transactional matter only. But within these past five years, they’re beginning to consider that talent strategy is definitely in line with business growth. Since the beginning of 2015, the global CEO’s concern over the availability of skills has risen. This thought might have arisen because of the rapid evolution of the digital world, including the mass development of technology. Throughout 2019 only, the survey of PwC’s 22nd CEO Survey trend series reported that 79% of CEOs are rather “extremely concerned” or “somewhat concerned” regarding the availability of key skills.

Thus, this concern also results in the shift of needed skills in the companies. While in the 2008 CEOs were in the mission to find people with global experience, nowadays they are seeking tech-savvy leaders and employees. So that their companies can extend their breath and survive within the rapid exchange of technology. The data from our previous Talent Development Overview: Digital Skills Gap stated; 54% of companies agreed that the digital talent gap is hampering their transformation programs and that their organization has lost competitive advantage because of a shortage of digital talent.

Aaand what’s next?

So if we’re about to think as a solution-oriented person usually is, what should we do as a company? Being faced with all these challenges about digital transformations and how hard it is to recruit great talents? First of all, we have to understand the realm of job titles. There are so many new titles that refer to certain skills, and sometimes it’s confusing, even for a recruiter.s

Further than that, 87% of millennials said that they consider professional development as a critical aspect when evaluating the desirability of a job. This effects the second thing you need to understand, which is: bringing strategic planning to the HR function is a great consideration because it is related closely to the talent acquisition strategy. Workforce planning is now a trend and also be viewed as an important service. “With an agile talent and strategy in place, you can unleash the full potential of your talent and drive organizational performance.”.
