Breaking Ozark is a fictional crossover television event that combines two of the decade’s most successful and esteemed dramas … Breaking Bad and Ozark. Even though these shows did not overlap in dates of production or within the chronology of their storylines, we’ve put together a universe where the characters in these two programs do indeed interact with each other.

The “Pilot” episode of Breaking Ozark takes place within two months of the events that occur in the final episodes of both Season 4 of Breaking Bad and Season 2 of Ozark. After the mass murder of the Juarez Cartel and the explosive death of Albuquerque restauranteur/cartel kingpin Gustavo Fring, the Navarro Cartel sees the upheaval in the Southwest drug market as an opening to be capitalized on.

Enter Marty Byrde, one of the Federation’s long-time accountants who has already once relocated his family (Wendy, Charlotte and Jonah) for the greater good of Cartel business. Now Marty is tasked with moving his family a second time, this time from the Lake of the Ozarks to Albuquerque, New Mexico in order to establish business roots in the Southwest. Marty’s associate/understudy Ruth Langmore joins the Byrde family on their cross-country trip.

As Marty goes about establishing himself in Albuquerque, there is still one big issue: nobody within the Cartel knows who the mysterious Heisenberg is, nor do they know how much information the DEA, FBI or any other federal agencies have in regards to who this notorious figure is. The only thing the Navarro’s do have on good authority is that the money being brought in by Heisenberg’s trademark blue meth is being laundered through the A1A Car Wash, a business recently purchased by Walter and Skyler White.

Marty’s first big job is to meet with the White’s and convince them that it’s in the best interest of their boss, Heisenberg, to get out of the drug game for good before he gets hurt and before they get hurt. When Marty shows up at the car wash unannounced he meets Skyler, who initially deflects all questions and suggestions that her and her husband are laundering money for a murderous meth cook who goes by the alias “Heisenberg.” As Marty leaves he gives Skyler his number and implores her to reconsider her stance … one that Marty claims will put her and her family in grave danger.

Later in the evening Skyler tells Walt about her run-in with Marty Byrde, and Walt insists that meeting with him may be the best course of action. After giving Mike Ehrmantraut a day to do some background research on Martin Byrde, Walt instructs Skyler to call Marty and let him know that she’s open to meeting with him. She gives him a time and an address, and that is where we pick up with the final Act of the Pilot episode.
