Well, the long wait has been over and the entry of Netflix into the regional market started grandly. Although Netflix is a global platform with huge recognition across the world, the originals produced were limited to certain languages. It took a long time for Netflix to enter into a potential regional market space.

‘Paava Kadhaigal’, is the latest entry into Netflix and had been considered as an exciting film yet to be released because of the noted filmmakers of Tamil cinema’s involvement in the project. This idea of involving some good filmmakers to work on a project has become a rage these days and we can see that type of content very often on the OTT platforms.

The film is however written with a motive to tell the stories of Pride, love, sin, and honour and based on some heinous crimes. These are that type of crimes which we hear or read in our day to day lives and feel sorry for 2 seconds and move on. But, the narration of these four stories has been exceptional and will leave you uncomfortable at the end.

Thagam(pride), created by Sudha kongara has a feel-good narration in it at least for the initial part and turns out to be a tragic one because of the inhumane act of some people.

Love Panna uttranum (Love), stands out among the stories and had been a thorough entertainer throughout and showcases some gruesome scenes of unethical acts committed by a father and his workers. The way the characters have been inspired and designed was spectacular and vignesh shivan needs to be appreciated for this short.

Vaanmagal(sin), will be the most relatable story to many common households and it has a natural, raw vibe in it and this story deals with a dangerous sin committed by the young men. This is a story that we hear every other day in newspapers and it was told intensely, also Gautham Menon seems to be enjoying the OTT space more than any current director and it’s refreshing to see him act as well.

Oor Ivaru (Honour), this is the cruelest and disturbing story of the whole movie and was carried with that ultimate conviction of Vetrimaaran. ‘Honour’ killings in the present society show ourselves that where we stand as human beings, the ever disturbing act committed by a father to his daughter will make viewers uncomfortable for a long time.

Finally, Netflix has made a clear statement through this movie that the concentration and production had been moved to regional as well and the quality being the same.
