SERIOUS MEN ‘BOOK vs MOVIE’

The adaptation of Books is quite common in the world of cinema, even some great classics which we watch repeatedly and have high regard for are also adaptions from books. This habit of adapting has been there for a long time in the world of cinema. At the same time, it is not likely that a movie will be good when it’s an adapted one, there are also examples of adapted movies which ended up as duds.

Coming to Indian cinema, there are many adapted ones, but the word adaption or this practice of adaption has become more famous in the modern-day after Chetan Bhagat’s series of adaptions became successful. ‘3 Idiots’ is one such example followed by ‘2 states’, ‘Kai Po Che’, and so on.

Serious Men is one such movie which was an adaptation of the book written by ‘Manu Joseph’. Serious Men the ‘Book’ received recognition and appreciation from a lot of people. The book explored every possible corner of the Story Line taken, it feels so complete after reading the whole book. Many small nuances add a lot to the book and it can be seen clearly in this one. The series of happenings, establishment of characters, and their relationships are perfect in the book and the writer was in no hurry to wrap up things, which made it feel complete .

Coming to the book, even though there are some greatly adapted scenes and moments, the soul of the book is missing in the movie. The establishments were perfect but the finishings were done hurriedly. The book has a great potential to be adapted into a whole movie, but the wrapping of things hurriedly made it unsatisfactory.

There will be a lot of changes considering cinematic effect when a book is being adapted and in Serious Men, those changes could have been made even more effectively considering the potential of the book.
