There have been many movies or shows based on the Life stories of Sports personalities, Politicians, Actors and even some special people who were not in the celebrity league, and the majority of them were about the rise of the person or their peak, etc…, but probably this is the First time in a Real-Life story based Series/Movie where a ‘Fall of the person’ was shown in a crystal clear way.
‘Scam 1992- The Harshad Mehta Story’ is based on the Stockbroker Harshad Mehta and a scam related to him, and this series was adapted from the book ‘The Scam: Who won, who Lost, who got Away’ written by journalists Sucheta Dalal and Debashish Basu.
When a series is being told, concentrating more on the ‘Fall of a person’, there has to be a good establishment of that person and his rise in the initial episodes, and fortunately, the writers have been spot on. The initial three episodes are written beautifully by smartly dividing Harshad Mehta’s rise. In the First episode, the entry of Harshad Mehta into stocks as a ‘Jobber’ is shown, the dominance of Harshad in the ‘Stock Market’ is shown in the next one, and Harshad’s entry and dominance in the ‘Money Market’ are shown in the later one.
When the series enter into its later episodes the only thing they had to show is the fall of Harshad Mehta, and the way they showed the process even with small nuances and with solid banking terms and logics is what the show is all about. The writing is so sharp, such that there won’t be any loosely written dialogue or scene that distracts us from the actual story. Sometimes, all those banking terms or conversations could be annoying for a lot of people but the flow of happenings and screenplay makes it easy to understand.
The performance of ‘Prathik Gandhi’ as Harshad Mehta will be remembered for a long time and also ‘Shreya Dhanwanthary’ played as Sucheta Dalal is Out Standing. The quality of work this series showcased will inspire all the filmmakers across India.
Is Scam 1992 the best web series from India? Well, only time can decide what’s the best, but for now, it is undoubtedly the best web series ever produced in India.
