One of my own personal philosophies is that for science to ever leave the lab and have a tangible impact in the world, business is the vehicle for that change.

There are several crucial facets to launching a successful business. Beyond creating value for a target consumer, a founding team needs compelling marketing, operational and delivery excellence, consistent sales, and sound financial management. If scientific founders do not feel like they have the skillsets to tackle all of these elements, they can seek out consultants or additional employees to help accomplish their mission.

But what if your startup isn’t being built within a well-known, regional bioeconomy ecosystem? What if your founding team doesn’t have the preexisting professional contacts critically needed to accumulate business acumen? Are aspirations of commercialization…
