Biotron’s Android app hits 20,000 downloads a month after it's launch

Biotron Data, the app that lets users earn BTRN tokens for sharing their data, was released on June 7th. A month after it's launch it already attracted near 20,000 users and has an almost perfect rating.

BIOTRON FOUNDATION is on a mission to change how users’ data is collected and used, as it puts them in charge of the decision. Currently it collects location data and combines them with 3rd party datasets to create analytics and insights for its clients — organizations that require location intelligence, transport analytics, and health data to improve their services and products. It then shares part of the revenue back to users who contributed their data.

Transactions and micropayments will be handled by blockchain technology provided by SophiaTX, together with Biotron’s BTRN token. Smart contracts are created for each transaction to ensure transparency of the whole process.

Biotron Data is an Android app that is essential to this process. In less than a month it already attracted near 20,000 users, which proves that they are willing to share their data when the incentive is right and when they are in control of what’s collected and how it is used.

The app currently collects location data, but will later be extended with other data sets, such as social media, healthkit, data from wearables, and other sensors. Version for iOS will be available later this year. Collected data will be processed and transformed into analytics and insights for clients from various industries, most notably retail, automotive, as well as local governments. For these, we’ll Initially focus on Western Europe and the US.

The main idea behind Biotron Data is building a user-friendly interface, where users are able to share the data they want, and be rewarded in the form of our own BTRN token. Data acquired through the app will be mixed with 3rd party data sets and analyzed, to offer anonymized but precise data analyses to interested parties. After the sale of an analysis like that, the users who contributed will receive compensation based on the amount and quality of data they provided.

At the moment, there’s an onboarding campaign in the application to motivate users. Anyone who installs the app on their Android device is eligible for free BTRN tokens, which they will receive for registration and location data collection.
