Hello writers and artists,

Before we mention some exciting news….

Again, we will be collecting submissions for the first edition of our magazine till November 15th at 12:00 AM. All pieces from this round will be featured on Medium (specifically, on our publication), on an online edition on our website, as well as a print edition!

Note: print magazines will be available for sale on our website as well as local indie bookstores (as to maximize the exposure of your work!)

More announcements regarding the release date of the first edition, its cover & title, as well as its purchase will be available in the coming weeks.

It is a pleasure to announce the formation of our new publication on Medium! Over the past two weeks our Medium page (albeit still small) has grown more than we had anticipated, and with the release of the debut edition of our magazine, we only saw it fit to go beyond a Medium page and create a publication as well.

On our publication, we plan to publish the work of emerging writers/artists from all around the world. From well-known to new writers on and out of Medium, we hold one goal: to support and promote emerging writers and artists. We wish to put a spotlight on their work, turn the attention of readers towards them, help them in getting known, aid their reputations, assist them when it comes to edits, enhancing their work, and give advice and direction for their own personal projects.

There are tons of writers out there with fantastic work, work that is better than most of the top-rated articles here on Medium or even those that are at the “forefront” of the modern literary canon. Yet, why are they not known? Why don’t we hear their names? See their pieces pop-up on our feed? Why do they need to be confined to Medium when work that is brilliant should be exposed to other platforms, perhaps bookstores, too?

It is precisely these questions, this dilemma, that bothers us. Even though we are a small team of editors who have faced some of the struggles of the writing industry, we are here to make a change. Will it actually work? How much of an impact will we make? In truth, we don’t know. But we have a set of ideals and plans that we wish to implement in solving this problem. Some will work, some will fail. We learn. We research. We will try again.

Lastly, as we will be shifting our efforts to our publication, our current Medium page will shift from publishing pieces, to including articles relevant to emerging authors.

We plan on using this page as a way to indirectly promote writers, publish informations on classes/workshops which may offer useful insight to those who wish to learn more, offer resources regarding how to submit, where to submit, and even a series of articles (which will be out in the coming months) that offer emerging authors detailed lessons on how to properly edit their work and prepare it for submission to bigger publications!

In essence, our publication will publish work from our staff and other authors, meanwhile this page will act as a resource for emerging authors.

To all those who have contributed, those who are contributing, and those who read our work, we are excited to take this big step with you!

(Don’t forget to follow our publication to read published pieces from our editorial team and emerging authors!)

With great appreciation,
The BirdHouse Editorial Team
