Welcome to Birds, Birds, Birds on Medium! Please read through the following guidelines carefully before sending us your story.

What We Publish

At BBB, we are committed to publishing high-quality content about birds for our bird-buff community. Here’s what you need to know:

  • Topics We Publish: (Almost) anything about birds, including wild birds and pet birds.
  • Topics We Don’t Publish: We will not publish stories about jackdaws or goldfinches.
  • Types of Stories We Publish: We love case studies, personal stories, advice, and product reviews. All stories should be over 600 words in length. We LOVE stories with photos taken by writers!
  • Quality Standards: Stick to the Medium Quality Guidelines. Run your story through Grammarly or another spell-check tool before submitting.
  • Hard and Fast Rules: No AI.

Submission Process

Submitting to BBB is a two-step process. Please follow these guidelines:

How to Be Added as a New Writer

To request to be added as a writer, leave a comment.

How to Submit a Story

Once you’ve been added as a writer, follow these steps to submit your story:

  • Open your draft on Medium.
  • Click the three dots in the top right corner.
  • Select “Add to publication” and choose Birds, Birds, Birds.

We prefer unpublished drafts so that we can work with you to refine your story before publication.

Timelines

We aim to review new writers within five business days and new submissions within ten business days.

If we choose not to accept your story, we will not provide feedback. If you have not heard back within the time frame indicated, assume we have passed on your story.

Editing Process

Once you’ve been accepted as a new writer, here’s what you can expect from us during the editing process:

  • We may do line edits for clarity, grammatical correctness, and flow
  • We may edit the title or header image

Promotion

We will promote your published work through highlighting our favorites on our newsletter, Birds Beyond. We ask that our writers promote their work by sharing their post on any social media platforms.

Thanks for reading!
