The TV series that all geeks love, Silicon Valley, suggests that innovative startups are born there. Throughout the series, we see a team of nerds with a big idea struggle to succeed. All within a business incubator in the San Francisco bay. This cliché could be nothing further from the truth and a couple Peruvian startups will help us prove it.

It’s mind blowing, but the tech world no longer has borders. We don’t have to be in Silicon Valley to have a great idea and make it happen. A talented individual can work remotely from the comfort of his/her home in Lima, Peru for a large multinational company in the US, or develop his/her own project. There’s certainly a lot of tech talent in South America…

A few weeks ago, the Tech Crunch Disrupt took place and we’re proud to say that two local startups participated and one placed in the top six. This is an unbelievable accomplishment. Hundreds of companies with innovative ideas from around the world participated to be evaluated by large companies and investors… and to win a prize of $50,000 to continue developing their final product.

The finalists were the Aramburú brothers with their startup, BlazingDB. We all know that DB means Data Base, so you get an idea of their business. They compete with none other than the giant: MySQL. Their numbers speak for themselves: compared to their competition, BlazingDB gathers information 350 times faster, adds information 140 times quicker and makes predictions in a lot less time. Impressive, right?

Of course their idea isn’t finished, but under the watch of large investors and worldwide corporations, they won’t have any trouble completing it and achieving success. So, if you have a great idea, you don’t have to invest thousands of dollars. You only need to believe in it enough to create and launch an MVP (minimum viable product) that captures the attention of those who could be future partners. It just goes to show you can find your “Silicon Valley” no matter where you are located in the world with the right team, development, and work ethic.
