Bit Zesty & SXT win in ‘Mobile — Best User Experience’ at 2018 W3 Awards
3rd October 2018 — The winners of the 13th Annual W3 Awards have been announced by the Academy of Interactive and Visual Arts. Receiving over 5,000 entries from across the globe, the 13th Annual W3 Awards honours outstanding digital work, including Websites and Mobile Sites/Apps, created by some of the best interactive agencies, designers, and creators worldwide.
We are pleased to announce that judges have chosen our work with SXT Digital Health to receive the Silver Award in the category Mobile Features — Best User Experience.
SXT is a community interest company working to reduce the spread of Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) with its digital healthcare services.
Our entry for the 13th Annual W3 Awards focused on the SXT Clinic Finder service, including the Emergency Contraception Calculator tool, which we developed.
DESIGNING USER EXPERIENCE FOR DIGITAL HEALTH
Due to the sensitive nature of using a digital service to search for sexual health clinics and input personal health information, we needed to place user experience at the forefront of our design process.
We interviewed potential users and conducted user testing to determine their needs, focusing on how to ensure that the Clinic Finder and Emergency Contraception Calculator tools were clear and simple-to-use for individuals who wanted to find reliable healthcare services, quickly.
Since users are often directed to the Clinic Finder tool via an SMS notification from SXT, we made sure that this — and all of SXT’s digital tools — were responsive and accessible for mobile users.
With the SXT Clinic Finder tool, a patient can use their phone to quickly find a suitable treatment centre by answering just a few simple multiple-choice questions. Similarly, the Emergency Contraception Calculator allows a woman to receive fast, reliable advice about her risk of pregnancy by selecting relevant dates using the user-friendly date picker. For both tools we created clean and clutter-free mobile interfaces, focusing the user’s attention on the question at hand; the navigation is intuitive, naturally guiding patients through the process.
As an experienced organisation offering specialist user experience research and design services, we are delighted that the judges have recognised our work with SXT as an outstanding example of mobile user experience within such a vital, growing sector — digital and mobile health.

A DIFFICULT JUDGING PROCESS
The W3 Awards are sanctioned and judged by the Academy of Interactive and Visual Arts (AIVA). AIVA members include executives from organisations such as Wired, Code and Theory, Microsoft, Facebook, and Yahoo!. To uphold the W3 Awards’ high standard of excellence, AIVA judges may select multiple winners in each category — or no winners at all.
Derek Howard, Director of the AIVA, states:
“The creativity and quality of this season’s entries surpassed even our grandest expectations. As the digital landscape continues to expand and break new ground, our winners are a testament to the creative capability that makes the internet a true work of art.”
Given this highly-selective judging process, we are delighted that our work with SXT has received a Silver Award for an outstanding entry in the ‘Mobile Features — Best User Experience’ category.
