How I’m Up-Leveling My Feminist Game
What I’ve learned, what I’m still learning
Throughout this article, the term ‘woman’ is used in its most inclusive sense.
Last year, I wrote an article discussing things women do (or don’t do) that—in my view—jeopardise the feminist movement. This article received a notable response (it’s my most-read article to date) and I considered writing a follow-up, yet something held me back.
Then it clicked.
I realised I was projecting outwards without first looking within. My writing was borne of frustration and a sense of injustice. However, instead of calling out others, I should have been calling on myself to do better. This was a humbling thought and instigated the following questions:
Have I ever been a ‘bad feminist’ and what can I learn from this experience?
What can I do to make myself a more well-rounded feminist?
How can I more effectively contribute to the cause by empowering myself and others?
Consequently, I did some soul-searching. Then, I decided to write this article outlining how I’m trying to become a better feminist.
