South Korea’s 4B Movement and Why it is More Universal than We May Think

South Korea’s 4B Movement has been making headlines globally, and for good reason. In the 2023 Global Gender Gap Report, the Republic of Korea ranks at a shocking 105 out of 146 countries indexed.
Korean women experience abuse, revenge porn, spy cam%s, workplace sexual harassment, rape, and murder at an increasing rate, yet South Korea’s President Yoon Suk-yeol insists there is no systemic gender discrimination in South Korea.
Part of his campaign pledge that made him so popular with young male voters in Korea was to abolish the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, a direct hit on women’s rights in the country.
Last year, police charged 9,858 people with crimes against their intimate partners, including murder, rape, battery and stalking. Women were victims in 9,682 of those cases.
