We’ve all heard of the seven-year itch.

The part of a romantic relationship where the honeymoon phase is entirely extinct after seven years of blissful togetherness.

It’s said the rose-colored glasses are well and truly off by then. The reality of stark differences takes hold like a vice. We hit a rocky, potential point-of-reckoning patch, and the questions start flying:

Am I satisfied? Is the relationship working for me/us? Is this the future I want?

Interestingly enough, men also have a high rate of cheating around the seventh year.

Lucky number seven.

I’ll bet seven big ones that it’s a bit of an urban legend.

The seven-year itch vs. the childbirth itch

I’m not sure that men need the seven-year itch to justify cheating when there are so many reasons to hoodwink a spouse … boredom, opportunity, lack of sexual satisfaction, ego boost, disconnection, revenge … having a baby — another oh-so-common itch that often needs to be scratched…

The “childbirth-itch.”
