This Workplace Is Very Welcoming to Women

As long as they know their place

For once, I have nothing against a team meeting. And I’m not the only woman in it. What a great and diverse team.

We chat about the weekend, the fact that the air conditioning keeps breaking down, and that this nice new sandwich shop has finally opened. We should really check it out sometime.

Then, the real work begins. We have a big project to do. Stuff to fix. Tasks get allocated, and so far, the vast majority fall on the women. And John except that he doesn’t know how to fulfil his task.

He looks at me resembling a mix between a proud cockerel and a lost puppy.

I hold my gaze. I’m not here to do someone else’s job. That’s when another colleague steps in. She’s going to help John. Only here this means she’s going to do it for him, and it’s not the first time. And not the second, either.

I can feel a sign of relief in the room. You see this isn’t the third time either and they’ve asked me before. I point-blank refused, creating drama.

Being difficult.

Another guy says we should do team lunch and looks at the same colleague. She nods knowingly since she’s the one always looking up the restaurants while he sends the ‘I organised team lunch’…
