Trump Wants a Baby Boom, but His Incentives Are Offensive

Have you heard Trump’s new slogan for his baby boom? “Get laid, get paid.” Okay, so I might have made that up, but it would be pretty fitting.

A recent article in The New York Times, titled "White House Assesses Ways to Persuade Women to Have More Children" outlines some of the incentives being considered to induce a baby boom. Quite frankly, these so-called incentives are grossly offensive to the American people, women in particular.

Even though I live in Ireland, I am angry on behalf of the women of America. Heck, I am terrified on behalf of the women of America.

Many of us have read Margaret Atwood's dystopian novel, The Handmaid’s Tale. It’s also accessible on various TV channels as a six-season show. Channel 4 describes it as a “Multi-Emmy-winning US drama series set in a dystopian society that treats women as property of the state, forcing many into sexual servitude to repopulate a devastated world.”

Honestly, even just reading the summary of The Handmaid’s Tale makes my blood run cold because since the overturning of Roe v. Wade, women’s bodies in America have become just that — property of the state. Not only that, but the pronatalist trio…
