Developers invited to Sozu Haus Bogotá during ETHBogotá and Devcon

The mission of Sozu Haus is to be a home for builders everywhere. Every Sozu Haus is a space for smart people, good vibes, and a connection to the web3 family and puzzles that bind us.

Sozu Haus Bogotá was exactly that.

A familial framework for embracing technical challenges amidst a cohort of the world’s leading developers and mentors shaping major innovations in the Web3 space.

Along with all the people (devs, designers, product leads, and friends) who contributed, BitDAO’s inaugural Sozu Haus in Bogotá was built in partnership with MetaMask Snaps and Game7.

We took over a hostel in the Chapinero neighborhood of Bogotá, hosted a cohort of devs that we knew and invited many we didn’t. From Oct 7–12, we welcomed the web3 community to hack with us on bountied prompts pertinent to DAO Management, Web3 Gaming and one of MetaMask’s most recent innovations, MetaMask Snaps.

On top of the community activities that contributed to many killer hangs, the work members of the dev cohort built in collaboration with mentors were impressive and beyond our expectations!

WORKING AT THE HOUSE

The house commenced on October 7th, 2022 and after a series of workshops by prompt mentors to orient devs around the technical and conceptual framework for each prompt, we started building.

At Sozu Haus, building is everything. We want people to have the freedom to create when, where and however they want. We try our best to meet builders where they are and work hard to scaffold their working preferences so they feel welcomed, creative, empowered and productive.

In Bogotá, people were building everywhere. In our coworking space, at parties, during our 200 person family BBQ, at house dinners and late into the night. In 3 days, members of the Sozu Haus cohort built extraordinary projects exploring MetaMask Snaps, EIP-3074 smart contracts, ZK proofs. Their energy was awesome and even those not working on house prompts contributed their focus to the development of new and existing projects and products.

On Demo Day, 13 projects were presented. Of those, these were awarded 20K in bounties contributed by BitDAO, Game7 and MetaMask.

SOZU CHAMPS

EIP-3074 on Optimism Built by Jun Kim and Vince Tiu

BitDAO / Game7 1st prize winners

Project Overview

EIP-3074 lets third party contracts securely execute transactions on an EOA’s behalf by introducing two new opcodes AUTH and AUTHCALL to the EVM. By enabling sponsored gas fee payments, the project is a proof of concept for how the underlying on-chain execution environment can be modified to accelerate mainstream adoption.

Smart Account Sessions by Biconomy by @ChiragTitiya and @Schin_tomar

BitDAO / Game7 2nd prize winners and MM 1st prize winners

Project Overview

Auto approvals using session key module enabled on SCW within your MetaMask.

DAO NotifySnap by Konrad Gnat

BitDAO / Game7 3rd prize winner

Project Overview

Over the weekend I designed and (partially) built a snap that notifies you of new DAO proposals and enables you to vote on them. Modifying the MetaMask extension will be soon possible, currently can interact with Snap via dApp.

Blackbelt by Jessica Pointing, Shreshth Malik, Pawel Narkiewicz, Lucas Schneider

MM 3rd prize co-winner

Project Overview

Blackbelt is your self-defence against scams, directly in your wallet and in real-time. It provides an easy-to-understand security assessment of smart contract interactions and reverts scam transactions so that users, especially non-tech savvy ones, are protected against exploits.

zk_nullifier snap by yush_g and piotrroslaniec

MM 3rd prize co-winner

Project Overview:

During Sozu Haus Bogotá, we built a Metamask Snap for a ZK Nullifier scheme. We created a generic template for WASM execution in the snap to allow arbitrary Rust to execute, and were able to implement our verifiably deterministic signature on Ethereum inside MetaMask, the first step in bringing unique pseudonymity to Ethereum users.

PROGRAMMING

On top of everything else, we also wanted to support our community in gaining exposure to the BitDAO ecosystem and our friends. We were joined by a huge cohort of the EduDAO community that injected the raw energy and drive of the student groups leading the next generation of web3 products and research. We were joined by founders of major projects and thought leaders from the early days of web3. Each quickly became members of the house, even taking naps in our extra beds.

As a part of our official programming, leaders from Gitcoin and Code4rena joined us for a series of fireside chats that provided an opportunity for us to zoom out from our work and consider major projects in web3 pertinent to both the developer experience and the greater web3 ecosystem.

Azeem, head of partnerships from Gitcoin, joined us to discuss:

While we often discuss how web3 is the future, the way people feel outside of our small circles tends to be quite different. What are we doing to build the things that will truly onboard the next billion people?

Two days later, Luks and leastwood joined us to discuss the amazing work they are doing at Code4rena. Their topic being:

Join Code4rena Wardens as they show you their methods for securing smart contracts and earning $$$$ by competing in Code4rena audit contests.

Each conversation provided context for the work happening outside of the house and shined light on the work we were doing inside, and this dynamic rang true during the entirety of our Sozu Haus Bogotá. It became a microcosm of the energy, drive and intelligence present throughout Bogotá for Devcon week.

Devcon brought some of the world’s leading builders together to explore the future of Ethereum, the projects that were shaping the ecosystem and an opportunity to socialize and consider major questions amongst leaders in our ecosystem. These people filtered in and out of our house and brought the perspective and drive that our cohort exhibited and built with all week.

We were ecstatic to see how well Sozu Haus scaffolded a portion of our growing ecosystem, how that reflects the energy being fostered by BitDAO and its AEs and we look forward to seeing how that Sozu community grows.

Sozu Haus Bogotá was the first of many global hackathons hosted by BitDAO’s Sozu Haus. The next time you see us, we will be in Vietnam focused on Web3 Gaming. Follow us on Twitter to learn more about Sozu Haus and our upcoming programming and apply here if you want to jam in Vietnam with us in November.
