We Should All Be Excited About DOGE
Because government waste is criminally out of control
In case you haven’t heard, one of the new features of the Trump administration will be the Department of Government Efficiency, headed by Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy. The purpose of the agency will be to curb government waste, and Ramaswamy has even confirmed that entire agencies are on the chopping block.
Even better, the agency has an expiry date of 2 years after it commences. That’s right, both Musk and Ramaswamy have stated that the goal of DOGE is to make itself redundant and then shut down.
As someone who lives in Australia, which also suffers from an excess of governance, I find this whole idea hugely exciting and I hope that one day the concept makes its way to our shores.
But they’ll be cutting essential services!
This is always the first objection thrown out whenever there is talk of reigning in government spending, regardless of where in the world it is. It’s certainly a valid concern – you don’t want to punish the people by removing services they need that their tax dollars pay for.
But in the US, there are some pretty staggering facts being thrown around. Here are just two:
- The Department of Education…
