Greetings,

We come bearing unfortunate news, and it is much to our dismay to announce that Bithereum’s current chain will be shut down in the coming days. About a month, on around July 27th, the Bithereum chain was attacked via a hidden pool which essentially hijacked the chain, causing a split to happen. The original chain which is being run by the attackers is now on block 648,294, while the chain our node is running is on block 648,105. Our node and any other nodes on the latter chain cannot sync properly unless they are able to communicate with the node on 648,294, which seems to be private. We had asked the community if anyone had a node at this height but it was to no avail unfortunately.

As a result, the BTH that everyone has is no longer usable. The chances of this changing are highly unlikely and due to this, we have asked exchanges to halt trading of BTH so that the malicious actors don’t pursue a double-spend opportunity. To clarify, the chain has been beyond saving in our capacity since the attack first took place.

This has been a project that we have worked on for over 2 years, and is one that we poured countless hours into, along with finances. Though we ended up not getting much out of it financially, it was a joy interacting with many people and growing this community tenfold. We cannot express our appreciation enough for everyone who believed in us and gave us chances, and we apologize for falling short of what we hoped to accomplish.

Having said that, this is not necessarily a full-on goodbye as we will potentially look into shifting BTH to an ERC at some point in the future. There are no guarantees with this, however it is certainly something we would consider if we are in the position to do so in the future.

For now, we will be putting the website in maintenance mode, and will be shutting down the discord channel. We will keep the telegram group open to continue discourse about crypto in general, and to use for updates in the future if BTH is ever resurrected. Once again, thank you to everyone and we wish success to all in the community as crypto goes to the moon!

Regards,

Bithereum Network Team
