My Experience as an Intern at Bitkub.com

I am currently in the process of finishing my bachelors degree in Managerial Finance and Banking. Being a finance enthusiast, my goal was to acquire work experience at a company that is pushing past the traditional bounds of the financial system in a way that makes a difference.

When I first began as a financial analyst intern at Bitkub.com, I had little knowledge on cryptocurrency and the major impact that blockchain technology has on the financial sector. This quickly changed. Blockchain technology has disrupted and transformed the financial industry through decentralization, transparency, and immutability. Blockchain has the potential to transform well-established institutions by providing cut costs, efficient execution of transactions, improved transparency, audibility of operations, and other benefits as well. The most interesting use of blockchain technology is the financial inclusion it offers to those that cannot afford traditional bank accounts. According to KPMG, only 27% of individuals living in Southeast Asia have a bank account. Leaving a huge gap in banking penetration with around 438 million unbanked individuals.

Bitkub.com is revolutionizing the financial way of life for individuals by providing feasible and convenient financial services. It is clear that this start-up and its’ founders are passionate about their mission to make a difference in the financial sector. So, I decided this would be the best company for me.

During my time as an intern, I have watched Bitkub.com grow rapidly in terms of user volume, transactions, and revenue. Bitkub.com allowed me the opportunity to expand my professional skills in finance, business development, and marketing. I was given the opportunity to lead projects and assignments that really made an impact on the success of the company, rather than the busy-work that most companies pass to their interns.

The work environment at Bitkub.com is based on an organizational structure that is open and centered around working as a team, allowing everyone’s talents to flourish. Bitkub’s desire to cultivate each of their employees’ skills impressed me the most. I find that I work best in an environment that is empowering and positive, and my internship experience here at Bitkub fully embodied these characteristics.

Bitkub also fosters an inclusive work environment in which the leaders of the company seek the input of organizational members from all job positions, including interns. Everyone is asked to provide their ideas and opinions, even if these opinions differ from managements’. The active engagement of all organizational members in critical decision-making made me, as an intern, feel valued as an employee.

The work-life balance at Bitkub.com is great. We are encouraged to find a healthy work-life balance by working smarter, not harder. The encouragement of a healthy work-life balance made for a stressless and motivating internship experience. I was also able to take a couple of days off to travel to one of Thailand’s most beautiful islands: Koh Phi Phi.

Another plus-side: Lunch is free and we eat together on the daily.

Living in Bangkok

My experience in Bangkok has been nothing less than 24/7 excitement. From the food to the culture and friendliness, this city has captured my heart in the 3 short months that I have lived here. In my spare time I was able to explore the city from the inside out; visiting temples, floating markets, and experiencing Michelin Star street food. The nightlife in Bangkok is also something that is quite unique. Watching the streets come to life as the sun goes down is unlike anything I’ve ever seen before.

I am very grateful for my time as an intern at Bitkub.com. I learned a lot about self-responsibility and teamwork that I was unfamiliar with before. There was never a boring day spent in the office. I was always busy juggling and completing my own projects, or helping others work on theirs. This allowed me to learn the importance of time management and working together as a team to achieve a common goal. The Bitkub.com team was very encouraging and pushed me to step out of my comfort zone and be apart of something bigger than I could’ve imagined.
