Even Blue States Lack Abortion Access Now, And It’s Terrifying

My new favorite “devil’s advocate” argument that I’ve heard since the overturn of Roe v. Wade is that “Abortion isn’t outlawed — it’s just left up to the states!”

Clearly, there’s a lot wrong with this argument — namely, the fact that abortion should without a doubt be a person’s choice and not left up to a state or any other form of government. Our right to an abortion should be protected everywhere.

I mean, they’re right — it is now left up to the states — but then that gives some states the freedom to unabashedly outlaw it. Plus, the people spewing this point are usually the ones who remain unaffected by abortion bans or restrictions and can’t seem to understand how it really feels. How would they like it if they had rights in some states but not others? Especially fundamental, crucial rights like that of bodily autonomy?

I don’t care if it’s a “state issue,” because it shouldn’t be. My body and my healthcare should not be up to the discretion of my state. And what about those women who live in red states? Are they just unlucky and expected to live with it? What about especially the ones who are not financially stable enough to make an interstate move? It’s a useless argument.
