We are pleased to announce the beta for the new version 1.8, which introduces important changes and improvements to the app. Below you’ll find an overview of what this update has to offer. You can enable beta testing for Bitsnapp using this link https://play.google.com/apps/testing/bitsnapp.com.bitsnapp
New notification system
The notifications system has been completely reworked and from now on, the app will communicate with our dedicated server in order to handle all the notifications, providing a greater level of accuracy and reliability. These improvements will also decrease the phone resources usage, ensuring a smoother experience for everyone.
Some more details:
- We’ll use dedicated servers to handle push notifications, your phone will now only activate when a notification is sent, ensuring maximum reliability and reduced battery usage
- You can add notifications with percentages instead of prices, this means that you can set the app to notify you when a coin goes above 5% of the current price (it’s just like adding the price manually but easier)
- Every 5 mins you’ll receive new notifications (when triggered), if you didn’t delete the previous ones the app will automatically replace them without any sound, this is useful to always have updated prices in the notification bar without getting disturbed by them
- You can use the “Delete after the first notification” switch to avoid getting notified every 5 mins
The backend will be introduced with this version and we made some minor changes to the frontend, so this is what we would like you to test:
- You should always receive notifications when they are triggered
- You should see the correct prices when you receive them
- You should be able to load the list of notifications, delete them or add new ones from the dedicated page
- Anything else that you might notice
New price source
The app will use our server as a price source, giving us a greater control over coin prices and improved performances when updating prices. Bitsnapp now offers tracking of ~4k coins, which is almost double the amount from the previous version. This also allows us to fix the annoying issue caused by CMC showing wrong percentages. Now, you’ll be able to get the correct % when switching between different base currencies available.
Some more details:
- The app will now use our dedicated servers to get new prices, the server is using CryptoCompare and CoinGecko as sources
- The app will now be able to get all the data with a single request and it should be way faster than before
- The code that handled parsing prices has been reworked and we are now using some more advanced techniques to improve performances, this should result in faster prices updates and a smoother user experience
- We now have more control on the prices, we’ll be able to fix problems and make changes in autonomy
The backend will be introduced with this version, so there are several things that could wrong:
- You could get wrong prices (including percent changes etc.)
- You could get outdated prices (you can enable the yellow bar for outdated prices in Settings>Advanced settings) if the server has some problems
- Coins may be missing or have different codes, this could cause some trouble
Added in-app chat
The new in-app chat lets you communicate with other users about trading strategies, new coins, crypto related news, etc. We think that being able to discuss with the community enables new opportunities for everyone, from beginners to experts. That’s why we hope to see a lot of users sharing ideas and tips using the chat. You can also chat with us when we’re online and we hope to introduce an in-app support system in the future to allow for more direct communication with you.
More details:
- The Announcements navigation button has been moved to the left menu and it has been replaced by the chat
- You can register to the chat directly from the app, you just need an username and password, no emails. Remember that you won’t be able to recover your password, if you forget it you’ll have to register with a new username to continue chatting
- We could add read-only anonymous login in the future
- You can mention other users using @nickname in the message, they will see the message highlighted
- You can ignore users by long-pressing on a message. There is currently no way of removing users from your ignore list, so ignore carefully. We plan to add an ignore list in the future, where users will be able to manage previously ignored users.
What could go wrong? Many things. The chat needs extensive testing and there are many things that could break.
We couldn’t test the chat a lot and there are too many things that could break, both server-side and client-side. Hopefully this won’t be the case, but if it happens, make sure to report any problem you find, especially:
- Scrolling not loading messages
- Messages not being sent
- Receiving wrong messages or having some gaps in conversations
- The ignore function not working correctly
- UI problems
- Connection problems
Bitsnapp notifications
You can manage the new notification system in ‘Settings>Bitsnapp notifications’.
This feature also brings new content to the app. We will post a weekly recap, available for free, in order to sum up all the news and relevant stories from the crypto ecosystem. In addition to these added resources, we will share more insights on our Medium publication, dealing with important topics regarding cryptocurrencies and the growth of the crypto-sphere. We will also use these notifications to give important announcements regarding the app to keep you updated.
Added automatic backup
You won’t have to worry about losing your data anymore. No need to sign up, scan QR codes or anything that could waste your time, you just use the app and the rest is done in the background.
Added Bitmex tracking
Now you can keep track of your positions on Bitmex using the Bitsnapp app. The exchange offers margin trading with the highest leverage on the market, futures, perpetual swaps, features that appeal to the most advanced traders.
Some refactoring, code cleanup and minor performance improvements
The JSON export function will now correctly export everything, including investments, ERC20 tokens and buy prices
