Recap

January 3 2009, the date of Bitcoin Block #0, the genesis block, is celebrated as the birthday of the Bitcoin network. If the white paper is a declaration of monetary independence, then the genesis block is our independence day and the founding of a new system.

The ‘Proof of Keys’ initiative was started by Trace Meyer as an intentional cryptocurrency exchange run. Different exchanges, including HitBTC, had issues on the day of the event.

Ethereum development studio ConsenSys is partnering with computer chip maker AMD to develop W3BCLOUD, a new cloud computing infrastructure based on blockchain technology.

January 3 also marks the debut of a new cryptocurrency, called Beam — one of two highly-anticipated privacy coins implemented with the so-called “mimblewimble” protocol.
