Atlassian Confluence is most widely used documentation solution for organizations. It is well integrated with all kinds of productivity tools that teams need.

Organizations write documentation in Confluence and organize their knowledge base in one central place. As such, there is often need to download or export to different formats like PDF, Microsoft Word etc. Along with these traditional document formats, Markdown is becoming very popular and is de-facto standard for text based markup. It is used as main text format in Github, StackOverflow, Reddit and many other platforms. However, exporting contents from Confluence to Markdown is not supported by default.

Fortunately, there is add-on which solves this very problem: Markdown Exporter for Confluence.

  1. Install Markdown Exporter for Confluence
  2. Once it is successfully installed, you can use it from action icon (…) on the right: Export page to Markdown
  3. Markdown file will be generated and can be downloaded.

If you use code block macro for adding code snippets, this add-on also supports pages with code block. They will be exported with triple backtick (```), making it handy to move contents from Confluence to code hosting services like Github, Bitbucket, Gitlab or forums like StackOverflow.

It still does not fully solve your problem? Send us feature request and we are happy to help :)
