Bityond at Web Summit 2018
@Websummit 2018 was absolutely awesome.
I honestly couldn’t have hoped for a better gathering of tech people. From AI and automation to quantum computing and cryptocurrencies, the topics discussed varied immensely.
Not only that, but because Bityond was invited to the startup Alpha program, we got a chance to meet the great leaders of sunny Portugal!
We even got a Marcelfie!
200 Portuguese-based startups gathered at the old Carriage’s Museum in Lisbon for an evening of presentations, discussions and debate.
The goal was to introduce the multiple projects representing Portugal at Web Summit!
Day 1
As if meeting the president wasn’t enough, Paddy Cosgrave invited all startup founders to join on-stage after the inspiring talk of the one and only, President of the European Commission, Antonio Guterres.
One of the subjects touched by Mr Guterres was the crucial role of blockchain in increasing decentralization and in shifting the paradigm of how money is created and transferred. He also discussed a real-life example of a blockchain use-case, by explaining how the Ethereum network was being used in refugee camps to identify people on the blockchain, in order to secure identities, improve funds allocation and foster a transparent ecosystem for refugees.
Day 2
During the second day of the event, we got a chance to show-case Bityond for everyone!
Our stand got visitors from every continent and we had the pleasure of meeting amazing people with an actual need for better recruitment & talent management platforms.
One thing’s for sure: we’re on the right track!
We also got to meet investors, founders of many incredible startups, developers, experienced C-level executives and inventors. In a nutshell, the value Web Summit creates is the chance to meet like-minded people, interested in changing the world somehow.
We did have a great time discussing Bityond with so many fans. Hopefully, our mind-set will continue to attract the best companies and candidates, as our ultimate goal is to fully decentralize recruitment by giving more power to Bityond users.
Day 3
Sadly, all nice things come to an end.
During the last day at Web Summit, we got to see one of the most bullish investors on Bitcoin, Tim Draper, who still believes BTC will hit 250k by 2020, despite the 2018 bear market. His confidence and open-mindedness are a great source of inspiration, so don’t forget to watch the panel discussion here.
What else happened?
For starters, IBM had a freaking quantum computer core on their stand and you could actually play around with a real one, which was of course at their labs in the US.
UTRUST, a Portuguese cryptocurrency payments startup, threw a hell of a pitching boat-party. The atmosphere was absolutely insane and we did hear some great ideas being pitched out. Well, for as much as I can remember if you catch my drift.
The level of awesomeness was out of the charts!
All and all, Web Summit was a terrific experience. We met investors, potential customers, people with crazy ideas and we got to see a lot of thinkers, like David Chaum, speaking live about highly debated topics.
We’re going to do our best to be present next year (maybe in the beta program? Who knows), so all your support is welcome!
