How to harvest chat logs for your Azure bots

Likely the most useful analytics available to any chatbot owner is the actual content of messages passed between your users and your bot(s). Knowing what your colleagues are making use of — or wanting to use — explains your bot’s success… or lack thereof.

We recently announced support for logging and analyzing chats through the AtBot Admin Portal (AtBot Premium). All chat events are pushed to an Azure Event Hub in your Azure tenant. This means that your private chat data will never be stored anywhere except your own Azure tenant.

Once you have configured the connection to your Event Hub, chat events will be pushed immediately. From your Event Hub, you can easily set up Stream Analytics to log your chat events in SQL, Blob Storage, or Power BI for reporting and analysis. Check out the video below to set yours up today.

With logging in place, you have complete visibility of all interactions with your bots. This can help you determine any places in your logic or knowledge bases that need to be adjusted. The analytics also give you visibility of the most used — or underused — Skills and knowledge of your bots.

Keep in mind that the better a chatbot performs in the eye of the user, the more likely your users will contact the bot for support. Success breeds success, so ensure you build out the tasks and knowledge that’s being requested. Your chat logs will be indispensable to that process.
