Which languages AtBot supports

AtBot’s language support rests mainly on the services it’s built on, namely various Azure cognitive services and Office 365 apps. This article will provide a brief overview of which languages (or cultures, as Microsoft sometimes terms them) can be used with AtBot.

If you plan to use all three of the main AtBot services (LUIS, Power Automate, and QnA Maker), these languages are supported by all three: Chinese, Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish. The full story is more nuanced, so if your language isn’t listed, please read on; it’s likely still supported in some ways.

AtBot Admin Portal

AtBot’s Admin Portal is presented in American English. An AtBot admin should probably be experienced in English to successfully implement AtBot for an organization. Though a translation browser extension will likely suffice.

That said, the underlying services of AtBot support many languages and users of an AtBot need not be fluent in English to use AtBot; all AtBot interactions can be in a supported local language.

AtBot’s LUIS Intent Vectors, which are managed in the AtBot Admin Portal, can be in any language LUIS supports. However, the portal where the Intent Vectors are managed will be in American English.

Language Understanding Intelligent Service (LUIS)

At the time of this posting, LUIS utterances can be entered in American English, Chinese, Dutch, French (France and Canada), German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Spanish (Spain and Mexico).

Note that some advanced features like like prebuilt entities and phrase suggestions are not fully supported by each language. For a full listing of supported languages in LUIS, see the Microsoft support doc.

Power Automate

At the time of this posting, Power Automate can be used in 44 languages including Arabic, Basque, Bulgarian, Catalan, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Estonian, Finnish, French, Galician, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Kazakh, Korean, Latvian, Lithuanian, Malay, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese (Portugal and Brazil), Romanian, Russian, Serbian (Cyrillic and Latin), Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish, Swedish, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian, and Vietnamese.

QnA Maker

At the time of this posting, QnA Maker technically supports any language; QnA Maker functions as a unique type of search engine, so it’s comparing similar terms, phrases, and text from input to what exists in the knowledge base. It doesn’t need to be fluent in the language to spot the similarities between a user’s question and the content in the KB.

That said, QnA Maker’s documentation is clear that certain languages are more supported than others. Languages supported include Arabic, Armenian, Bengali, Basque, Bulgarian, Catalan, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Estonian, Finnish, French, Galician, German, Greek, Gujarati, Hebrew, Hindi, Hungarian, Icelandic, Indonesian, Irish, Italian, Japanese, Kannada, Korean, Latvian, Lithuanian, Malayalam, Malay, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Punjabi, Romanian, Russian, Serbian (Cyrillic and Latin), Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish, Swedish, Tamil, Telugu, Thai, Turkish, Ukrainian, Urdu, and Vietnamese.
