An Item From My Childhood I’ve Kept and What It Means To Me

I grew up in the Lutheran Church. As teenagers we took Catechism classes to learn about Lutheran beliefs in order to be confirmed as a member of the church. This included learning The Ten Commandments, The Lord’s Prayer, The Apostle’s Creed, The Confession, Baptism Rules, and Prayers for Daily Use. It was the most boring class I ever took. Our minister was 80 and he was a very boring teacher. But my mom and dad were always proud of us for completing our classes and becoming a member of the church. Confirmation day was a special day.

For my confirmation gift I received a gold cross necklace with Jesus hanging on it. It was beautiful. My mom said that dad was the one who actually picked it out. I always cherished it because of that. I still have it packed away, but now that we have moved into the RV, I don’t have it with me to take a photo of it. I don’t wear it anymore, but I just could never get myself to give it away or sell it. It is probably the only thing I have left that my dad actually picked out to give me.

And just look at that red Irish hair!!!
