Ruby Noir asks, Does going through hardships make people stronger? Why or why not?

I’ve recently accepted that how we feel is not determined by outside factors but by how we internally relate to ourselves and our thoughts because to base our emotional states on people and things around us, we set ourselves up for overwhelm and personal destruction.

That is an intense statement, but it makes perfect sense. Not everyone reacts similarly to daily occurrences. Heck, we don’t react the same way each time we face the same circumstance, so what differs? We decide how we view what’s going on externally — whether to look at things negatively or positively — whether the glass is half empty or half full. I never knew this train of thought growing up. If I had this much wisdom as a child, my hardships would have seemed more bearable.

I grew up in a family surrounded by illness. Throughout my childhood, my father’s Multiple Sclerosis was the source of my anxiety and anger toward God. I was in a constant state of sadness, worry, guilt, shame, and anger. So how does someone grow stronger through continuous stress? Especially while triggers…
