Audio and Video Troubleshooting on Blab
A few key things to remember for all Blabs:
Wear headphones
If you’re not using headphones there’s a chance your speakers will feed back into your microphone and cause an annoying echo for the rest of the room!
There’s an echo
- You might have Blab open in two windows!
- Make sure everyone’s is wearing headphones.*
- To find the source of an echo, mute each window and when the echo is gone, you’ve found the source!
Ensure you are using Chrome or Firefox (Safari is not currently supported)

- Download Firefox:https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/
Poor Audio Signal?
Make sure your internet connection is decently strong to avoid the: “poor internet — audio only” message, and to ensure things aren’t choppy and laggy. You can check your speed here: http://www.speedtest.net/
Video not working?
Make sure to QUIT Skype completely. Sometimes it will dominate the webcam settings even when not in use.
When a host/guest first enters a room:
Make sure they “allow” on the popup to access their microphone/camera
Once you’ve accepted permissions, we’ve set up a quick little greenroom for you to make sure the settings are correct before calling in!
If anyone is having trouble being seen/heard:
In Firefox: Click here to change microphone and make sure you choose “always allow” from the “share selected devices” dropdown
In Chrome: Click here to change microphone and make sure you have “continue allowing” selected
Always REFRESH the Blab after making a change.
If that STILL isn’t working:
Check your System Preferences, and make sure your input and output are set to the correct device.
Note: If you are using an external microphone this is particularly important.
On Mac:

If something seems to be a bit off — refreshing the page can help to reset the stream!
A “hard refresh” is even better: Control+Shift+R
There’s also a chance quitting Chrome COMPLETELY will help.
