“Nobody loves me, what’s happening?” my mom cried in a low, deep, emotional sob I’d never heard before. My heart broke with every word.

“That's not true, Mom,” I replied, trying to hold in my tears “We all love you dearly, but there is a bad disease going around, so the hospitals are all locked up.” I tried to convince her, and myself, that the world falling apart around us was normal. It was not.
