I Used To WISH To Be Deaf

My reasoning doesn’t make it much better.

Ever played “Would you rather?”? My family has always loved it, and we have asked each other some weird stuff over the years.

A milder one that really stuck with me as a kid was: “Would you rather be blind or deaf?

My answer was easy. I would much rather be deaf, and the more I thought about it… The more I wished that I actually was.

To the deaf community… please do not let the rest of this weird article offend you. I was a strange kid with strange reasoning.

As an extremely anxious kid, hearing aids that could be turned off and on sounded like a great solution to my problem.

Since the age of four, I have struggled with anxiety. My anxiety originally stemmed from a phobia. I had (and still have) a horrible phobia of throw up, known as emetophobia.

As a child, I was fearful of public places. School was a nightmare every single day. Parties were terrifying. Kids eating…
