No Other Style of Therapy Has Challenged Me as Much as This One
I’m making more progress than I ever did with normal talk therapy
I used to look forward to going to therapy. Now, I sometimes fear showing up… but for good reason.
When many people think of therapy, a somewhat limited view comes to mind. We imagine someone listening intently — and maybe even taking notes — as we pour out whatever is on our mind and needs releasing.
Let’s be honest, it feels good to vent to an unbiased person trained to ask the right questions, be quiet when we are talking, and validate our innermost feelings.
What most people don’t know, is just how many forms and varieties of therapy there are.
On the Psychology Today website, they list 79 types of therapy, all with different values and goals. That’s a lot of options to choose from, and in my experience, if you don’t know what you are looking for, it's hard to choose right.
Until the day I die, I’ll stand firm in the belief that all talk therapy is useful, period; It’s cathartic to express what is on your mind, and what was on your mind during past events that shaped you. Sometimes this is all people need to reach the root of their mental turmoil.
