Hi Black Bear writers!

I absolutely loved your August stories of solutions. I found myself being enlightened and inspired.

This month will be a sadder topic. One that most people shy away from. It’s hard to hear that someone wants to end their life.

But, many people have these thoughts. Life is hard and sometimes we break. Depression or mental illness hits, drug addiction spirals, or other losses can cause such feelings.

Have you ever felt like the world would be better off without you? I’d be lying if I said those thoughts never came to mind.

Seeing that it’s National Suicide Prevention Month, sharing stories of heartache with hopefully a good ending can be inspiring to someone having suicidal thoughts.

“Unalive” is the new term. Suicide now carries stigma, just like alcoholism and addiction. When we have different negative points against us, we can be ridiculed and considered “less than, " so I appreciate new terminology.

But it’s not all about the new way of discussing the subject. We need to vulnerably talk about our feelings, seek help, and understand the why behind our thoughts.
