The lecture series »Black German Studies: Transatlantic Perspectives« responds to the question posed by Tiffany Florvil and Vanessa Plumly in their 2018 volume Rethinking Black German Studies: »Who and what do we engage with when we use the category of Black German Studies?« The series seeks to offer space for exchange and reflection on the research field of Black German Studies and for engagement with scholars, authors/artists, and activists who contribute to this discourse. With a particular focus on transatlantic exchange, the lecture series consciously includes multiple, differently-located voices, drawing attention to scholarship from across the Atlantic that invigorates the study of Black German texts, as well as recognizing and centering the work that is being done in this area particularly by Black scholars, artists, and activists, located in Germany.
This blog provides a space for announcements, documentation, and reflection on the topic and is predominantly written by students of the seminar of the same name.

Black German Studies — Transatlantic Perspectives, eine Veranstaltungsreihe
Die Vortragsreihe »Black German Studies: Transatlantic Perspectives« antwortet auf die Frage, die Tiffany Florvil und Vanessa Plumly in ihrem 2018 erschienenen Band Rethinking Black German Studies gestellt haben: »Who and what do we engage with when we use the category of Black German Studies?« Die Reihe bietet dem Austausch und der Reflexion über das Forschungsfeld der Black German Studies einen Raum und fördert die Auseinandersetzung mit Wissenschaftler*innen, Autor*innen/Künstler*innen und Aktivist*innen, die zu diesem Diskurs beitragen. Mit einem besonderen Fokus auf den transatlantischen Austausch bezieht die Vortragsreihe bewusst mehrere, unterschiedlich verortete Stimmen mit ein und lenkt die Aufmerksamkeit auf die Wissenschaft jenseits des Atlantiks, die das Studium Schwarzer Deutscher Texte belebt, sowie auf die Arbeit, die in diesem Bereich insbesondere von Schwarzen WissenschaftlerInnen, KünstlerInnen und AktivistInnen in Deutschland geleistet wird, und stellt diese in den Mittelpunkt.
Dieser Blog versteht sich als ein Ort für Ankündigungen, Dokumentation und Reflexion zum Thema und wird überwiegend von Studierenden des gleichnamigen Seminars geschrieben.
