Following our successful ‘Race in Architectural Education: Decolonising the Curriculum’ symposium back in October, the Place, Culture and Identity group and Black in Architecture research unit invite you to a series of reading group sessions.

The reading group sessions will provide an opportunity to further discuss issues of race and racism in architecture.

The sessions are online and open to all Oxford Brookes University staff and students.

The first session will take place on Thursday 2 December from 1–2pm (GMT), online. We will discuss the following articles:

Tszwai So, Architectural education works against minority ethnic candidates, 25 June 2020, The RIBA Journal

Tom Lowe, Just 1% of architects are black, Arb survey shows, 20 July 2020, Building Design

Richard Waite, “Architecture is systemically racist. So what is the profession going to do about it?”, 23 July 2020, Architect’s Journal

If you are an Oxford Brookes University staff or student and interested to join, please send an email to Blackinarch At Brookes Dot Ac Dot Uk and we will send you a Zoom link.

Further sessions will take place on 24 February, 24 March and 21 April (all 1–2pm). Details of the reading for those sessions will be distributed nearer the time.

We look forward to seeing you at the session!
