1966 Bajan Rum Punch

1966 Rum Punch is an intricate and rich return to the African continent. The artisanal rum punch brand was founded by former diplomat and attorney Ajani Husbands.

The idea for the South-Africa-based brand was born when Husbands realised that the cultural significance given to rum in Barbados and other Caribbean islands was missing in other parts of the world.

Born in the United States to Bajan parents, Husbands felt compelled to delve into the business of rum.

Leaving the corporate world he went on to experiment with different recipes, paying homage to the traditional Bajan rum his mother used to prepare.

Husbands eventually began the process of crafting 1966 with a Black-owned distillery in South Africa. Armed with a deep passion to narrate the story of traditional rum — -and to highlight the significant role that Black people played in its development, 1966 was born.
