Black Women In A.I.
HERStory- Peace Technologist
Over the past 19 months we have had the wonderful opportunity to meet so many brilliant Black Women In Artificial Intelligence. I know the narrative is that they can’t find us, but some how we have all found a way to find one another. So throughout the year we will introduce you to their stories, their journeys, the spaces where they reside. Brilliant, bold, and aware of the work ahead.
Today we want to introduce you to Aishatu Gwadabe a Peace Technologist in Germany.
What is your title and the responsibilities of your job?
I am a Peace Technologist, AI artist, storyteller and public speaker who advocates for social justice in AI and non-fungible tokens (NFTs) within Web 3.0 by forging new digital pathways for peace. You can find me on the list of ‘TOP 100 Brilliant and Inspiring Women in AI Ethics 2022’. My educational background is in international politics and intelligence studies.
Why did you choose artificial intelligence/tech as a career?
AI is a passion of mine, whether it’s developing apps or raising awareness about the ethical implications of AI.
What concerns do you have about artificial intelligence and how would you address those concerns?
AI and algorithmic culture collide with intersectional social justice issues such as race, class, gender, ability, and citizenship. I raise awareness through my art, public appearances, as a guest lecturer or by developing apps.
What is your “why”?
Peace is my compass. What can I do to make a difference?
What is on your playlist?
Anything from Erykah Badu/Jill Scott/ Ali Farka Touré; Roy Ayers “Everybody Loves The Sunshine”; Kool & The Gang “Summer Madness”; Afrobeat music; Desert Blues, RB and Hip-Hop
