SEC’s New Stance
The US SEC appears to be making strides this year with developing and implementing a new strategy of providing crypto-enthusiasts and participants with a direct line of communication with helping the agency provide more clarity around securities laws used to govern crypto-assets.
The SEC will begin hosting public forums-with the first one in San Francisco on March 26th, 2019. These public forums will give the general public and crypto-enthusiasts an ability to gain a better understanding and influence SEC’s long-term strategy with governing the industry. One of the things I believe the entire blockchain space needs more than ever is a basic understanding of potential applications to solve real-world problems and assist regulators in creating laws that foster further innovation in the space.
I view the SEC’s new public forums as a great way to assist them in speeding of their process in providing clearer regulation to stomp out bad actors and foster entrepreneurs with the purest intentions in developing real-world applications. A positive effect is that these public forums legitimize the potential of the Blockchain industry in discussing the most top-of-mind issues in and around the crypto space.
