Dear Fintech folks,
It’s been a year now since our first BlackFin Tech weekly! For those who are new to our bulletin, you can find here all EU deals in the sector that have been announced the past weeks.
Fintech and Insurtech startups raised €45 million last week. Two third of that in the UK along with a mix of Swedish, Danish, Spanish and Hungarian deals. Banktech and Regtech took a strong position with 3 deals each, followed by Insurtech.
Surprisingly, France and Germany are absent. Payments is very quiet with just one deal — might be the end of a trend? or just a breath before Money2020 next week?
This week on show, two British companies that embodies strong trends in the industry.
- Seedlegals: Launched in 2017, this British company automates startup fundraisings — from term sheet negotiation to shareholder agreements, cap tables and stock option allocations. Because the solution helps CEOs save their two most valuable assets, time and money, they supported 7,000 startups in just two years of activity (8% of all early-stage UK funding rounds)! Seedslegals claims that their customers saved £4,5m in legal fees.
- Yapily: Founded in 2017, this UK company enables service providers to connect to all banks, both for data retrieval and payments initiation, via a single API. The company not only supports 35 of the biggest banks in Europe but also accountancy software solutions, crypto currency platforms, digital wealth applications, payments solutions and e-commerce companies. In the wake of European Union PSD2 legislation, Yapily aims to connect 500+ banks by the end of 2019. Last one to raise in a competitive landscape where winners seems to be emerging (e.g. Tink, Token, Truelayer, Plaid in the US).
