Can you tell us about your company, Metzger Insurance?

Metzger Insurance is an independent agency located in Williamsport, Ohio. The agency was opened in 1963 by my grandfather and has been family owned and operated ever since. We write for multiple company’s and specialize in Commercial, Farm, Crop, Home & Auto. Between our current employees we have over 100 years of experience and our agency hopes to continue providing Insurance services for many years to come.

How Insurance as an industry could improve itself?

The business of property and casualty insurance — assessing risk, collecting premiums and paying claims — hasn’t changed much. The insurance industry needs to improve on its digital innovations whose widespread adoption is just a few years away. Infrastructure and productivity, online sales technologies, advanced analytics, machine learning, the Internet of Things (IOT) and distributed ledger/Blockchain will have a huge impact on the industry. I feel a lot of Carriers are behind when it comes to tech and it hurts independent agencies like us. These new technologies are likely to be a big deal for consumers, bringing more choice, better service and lower prices.

For those insurers ready to tackle this new technology, digitalization presents a huge opportunity. The companies need to think more about digitalization to rethink all their operations, from underwriting to customer service to claims management.

What are your expectations around Black?

The average age of an independent agent gets higher every year. Once I educated myself on blockchain I knew our agency needed to get the ball rolling and find a way to be one of the first independent agency’s to utilize blockchain and create a proof of concept. Problem was I had zero background in coding nor knew anyone and finding other agents my age that are in a position to make decisions for their agency are few and far between, so finding another agency to brainstorm with hasn’t been the easiest. In my experience most independent agents are looking to retire not change the way the whole agency operates. So as I was searching the internet for ways to connect with other agents I came across BLACK. After doing some research I have come to have very high expectations. If Black decides to work with our agency our expectations would be having financial backing to create our own products and become our own carrier, help with IT and having access to the Black team when needed and basically working together to build a great product and change the insurance industry as we know it.

What do you think about the crypto craze?

Love it, but I will say be sure to do your research when buying Crypto. In my opinion there is a ton of scam coins so be sure to educate yourself. When was the last time a new currency was created? Aren’t we due for something new?
