About Me
My name is Jayla Shannon, a twenty-year-old senior Communication and Public Relations major with a minor in journalism at UNC Charlotte. I was born in Miami, FL and raised in Washington D.C., but my family currently lives in Maryland.

I am the proud owner of this here blog “Black2Basics”, and I am excited to start my blogging journey with you guys! In the future, I plan to start a lifestyle blog just about myself personally, but that will be after I get the swing of things.
I want this blog to be a place for discussion, reflection, and active reader engagement. This is going to be a blog set to inspire and educate you on what it means for me and other women I know to be an African American Millennial woman. I am not sure what category to put my blog under because this blog will serve several purposes and will include several different topics. Overall, I want this space to be a place where I can share unique individual stories, wonderful events in the Charlotte/Washington D.C. area as they pertain to the black culture, and some posts about the different experiences that shape what it means to be African American today. As you can tell, there will be a lot of different things to come from this blog. I want you guys to find yourselves coming back to my blog every week and finding something engaging and informative to read. As stated before, I don’t want this to be a blog about just one topic, but instead a place for endless creativity and expression about my experience/the experiences of others as a black woman of today. There may be times I discuss hair and there may be times I am discussing and sharing my ideas on diversity in the workplace for women (especially African American women).
I also know that you guys are probably thinking that this will be another black blog that is intended for a black audience. And that is where you are wrong my friend (lol see we are already friends). I do not have an intended audience for my blog and I don’t ever want my readers of different cultural backgrounds to feel that they are not welcome to read my posts or visit my site. With that being said, although my blog is focused on the black female community, this blog is open to everyone!
Ultimately, I want your experience with my blog to be memorable and AMAZING! And I am always looking for feedback and open discussion through email or in the comments.

For your reference, below are (3) three blogs that I found to be similar in genre/style as mine. I hope you find these blogs interesting and that you add them to your list.
So buckle up, and get ready to start this exciting new journey with me as we go Back2Basics!!
