BlahCade #178: Ruh Roh, Technical Difficulties

Our first run with audio drops was “OK” but we have some work to do.

In this episode, we share some experiences about trying out OBS to up the broadcast quality of the show.

There’s feedback from the Android community about Williams Pinball Volume 4 and the changes to game modes.

We then talk about some surprising news from Farsight Studios and then round out the show with some news about Demon’s Tilt.

And now… on with the show

01:00 — Bending Open Broadcast Studio to our will

Everyone pretty much uses OBS or another broadcasting tool to do streaming these days. It’s all fine if you are a single person streaming a pinnie from one laptop with three cameras. But when you try to pull in a video call, it gets complex. Really complex…

10:26 — Williams Pinball Android Update for Volume 4

When you are trying to get to the bottom of what’s changed in a game between releases, you’ve got to start at the baseline. Chris tries to dissect what the forum was saying about the DLC drop on iOS and see if the gnashing of teeth is warranted.

21:30 — Pinball Expert Operating Tip “Don’t reset leaderboards”

What happened when Zen reset leaderboards? They got death threats. Yes. Seriously. 👀

23:30 — Tournament play ball movement slower

Here’s a bit of inside baseball about why games are always released quite difficult, to begin with.

24:00 — Farsight’s news about AC/DC licence agreement

Does this spell the end of Stern Pinball Arcade? Well, not exactly.

31:00 — Black Mirror’s “I’m On A Roll” NIN cover.

34:00 — Accelerometer issues are fixed on the MicroCab and Star Race

It turns out that the board does need to be installed flat.

Also, Star Race has fixed itself. 😎 So, uh… Yay? I guess.

38:00 — Bad Cats in Williams Pinball? Hopefully not!

Everyone seems to be gagging for this game to be produced in Williams Pinball. But, why? We explore the tables that are commonly referred to as “System 11” (but aren’t actually System 11) to see which alpha, and alpha-numeric tables might have a chance at getting into the collection.

We also point out that the mission to “preserve pinball” isn’t applicable any more, because that’s not Zen Studio’s goal. Their goal is all about having fun.

57:00 — New gaming laptop for Jared

I give my pitch for the laptop I purchased to replace the work-issued Surface Book 2.

Shout-out to the folks on Steam Community for helping me tune Zen Pinball to perfection.

60:00 — Demon’s Tilt game update has added a pile of stuff

There has been a large update for Demon’s Tilt after PAX.

The occult gets an update

N.B. I said it was E3 but I must’ve been thinking about the Zen news so got my wires crossed.

Also, there seems to be a strange first-run issue for Demon’s Tilt that I describe. Unless you re-install, you’ll never see it.
