Beecraigs, West Lothian’s largest country park will not be hosting its annual light illuminations after the council cancelled the event due to COVID-19 safety concerns.

‘Beecraigs Festive Forest’, which would have been in its second year, was due to take place between the 4th and 24th December.

Rowen Events announced the cancellation on 13th November via their Facebook page which prompted West Lothian residents to launch a petition to reinstate the event.

Ewen McMartin, co-founder of the event, said: “It was a relief to finally get a decision but the decision that it was, it was devastating.”

Despite the petition receiving over 1,000 signatures, Rowen Events has decided not to appeal the council’s decision but the public support was overwhelming, according to Mr McMartin.

Beecraigs Festive Forest will return in December 2021.
