Mobile in different parts of the world

2016 was the first year in which smartphones became more widely used than desktop devices worldwide. As noted in Mobile vs Desktop usership, 68% of consumers now use a smartphone but only 64% of consumers use a desktop device.

But what does this data look like when we break it down geographically? Well, the story stays pretty similar:

The only two parts of the world where desktop devices are more widespread than mobile devices are Europe and North America.

And that begs the question, does that mean Europe and North America are further ahead of the rest of the world… or further behind?
