Stress wreaks havoc on your emotional equilibrium, as well as your physical and mental health. It narrows your ability to think clearly, function effectively, and enjoy life. Basically, it puts your entire well-being at risk. However, adapting an effective stress coping strategy helps you break the hold stress has on your life, so you can be happier, healthier, and more productive. Stress management is all about taking charge. In order to relieve the pressure, we need to regain control on our lifestyle, thoughts, emotions and the way we deal with problems. The first step is always to identify the source of stress, then it goes on. But stress management is not the same for everyone. That’s why it’s important to experiment and find out what works best for you.

As we all know life is just stressful as it is. Responsibilities pile up the closer we step into adulthood. As a young adult, I know exactly how it feels to be overwhelmed with requirements plus the expectations that go with it. The school, peers and family responsibilities will always be demanding don’t you think? And the burden of their expectations is a little too heavy sometimes. In times when stress becomes unbearable, Even I can’t help the helplessness that wells in my chest.

In my case, it’s hard to keep focused because worry claws my mind. Opting for diversions, fearing the responsibility that lies ahead. I drown myself with distractions avoiding any form of stress like the plague. However, escaping my problems only traps me in guilt. So, I allowed myself a chance to let go. A pause from all the things that clouded my sanity. And what I got was a slap in the face. Yes, I have realized the abuse on my well-being. Everything was just in my own head. It turns out that I was only overthinking.

Sometimes it may seem that nothing can be done with your problems anymore. But in actuality, there are plenty of things that you can do to manage them. After my little self-discovery, I indulged in reading numerous journals about stress management and my life significantly change for the better. I got better in handling my problems and consequently made it easier to control my emotions. Now remember, no matter how stressful your life seems to be, do not be afraid to take control. The simple realization that you’re in control of your life is the foundation of managing stress. My only advice? Don’t falter and the rest is up to you.
