Cam Newton: A True NFL Role Model

The recent criticism of Cam outrages me much more than his actions on the football field. Newton is not deserving of this scrutiny, he is actually one of the few players in the league that kids should look up too.

This is how I feel about Cam Newton and the latest stupidity of NFL fans. Let me start out by saying that I am not a die hard Cam Newton fan. Actually, I have every reason to dislike him, being a big Alabama football fan and a Falcons fan. He has torched the Tide and Falcons for many years, but I cannot help but like the man.

I remember when I saw him at Six Flags over Georgia following his rookie season and how much fun he was having with the kids there. The year after I watched him practice at the Carolina Panther’s fanfest day. One thing I noticed every time you see him was his radiant smile. The smile that almost looks fake but it isn’t fake. He genuinely believes a smile goes a long way.

His foundation also does a lot for the kids in the community. The pictures from the foundation show how truely happy the childern are. Meeting and playing catch with Cam Newton is likely the highlight of their summer, and beli be it or not, Cam enjoys it too. Some atheltes do charity to save money or to have a good public image, but Cam looks like he is enjoying himself out there. The joy he gives the childern in this community, makes him a true role model.

To the parents who think that it is the job of a NFL player to be a role model for your children, you are simplely wrong. The job description does not enatil being a good samaritan or even to do anything in the community. What Cam Newton does, he does because he wants to. He goes that extra mile because he realizes the struggle. He knows his life has had many twist and turns. Focus on the good and not the bad.

There is a reason why Cam Newton’s team is 9–0. It’s hard work, and that is a lesson to teach kids. Make no excuses, that’s another one. And if you achieve a certain level of greatness it is okay to show some excitement. Cam Newton has earned the right to celebrate, and that is the perfect lesson for kids. If you want to be great, work hard and make no excuses. When you reach greatness, sometimes it’s okay to be excited. It is okay to celebration your achievements. Like the great poet, Wiz Khalifa said, “Work hard, play hard!”

So instead of cheering on the scums that the NFL is full off, think about the players that actually do something for the community. Stop wasting time hating on a player that shows off, and start with the players who actually deserve the criticism.
