Welcome to the BLCK VC medium page! This is our very first post, and we are so glad to have you. We wanted to take a quick moment to introduce ourselves here and to give you an overview of what our community is all about. You’ll find some stats, our mission and some programs that we currently have in place. As we roll out new initiatives and opportunities, we’ll update this post.
We are the change that we seek…
BLCK VC was formed early in 2018 by Frederik Groce and Sydney Sykes to connect, engage, empower, and advance Black venture investors by providing a focused community built for and by Black venture investors. Since its inception, we’ve worked to develop the community through both social and educational events focused on advancing Black investors.
The challenge is clear: only 3% of venture capitalists are Black, with even fewer controlling the $80B+ invested annually in the US. In the past few years VC has become more diverse, but slowly and minimally. The goal of this group is to increase the number of Black investment professionals in venture capital and build a community so that Black investors can help each other succeed. What is our goal? To turn 200 Black investors into 400 Black investors by 2024.
Venture Open Source
Venture capital can be a very difficult industry to navigate. We recognize that venture resources are scattered all across the web, come in various forms (blogs, podcasts, books, etc.) and can be tough to find sometimes. That’s why we’ve created our Venture Open Source collection on Medium. Here, you’ll find a curation of some top resources for VC investors and startup founders, put together by Morgan Mahlock and JeanClaude Dorsainvil.
BLCK VC seeks to share a wealth of knowledge, and the aim of Venture Open Source is to begin to make this knowledge more accessible and digestible for anyone looking to break into VC, accelerate their learning as an investor or grow their startup.
If you have awesome resources that we should know about please shoot us a quick email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
BLCK VC Community Spotlight
Over the past two years we have seen the Black investor and startup community come together in such a beautiful way. Whether it’s a new fund being launched or a new startup raising capital, this community has shown that we are talented, and we are more powerful when we support and uplift one another. To help amplify the successes throughout our community we’ll be posting a weekly community spotlight.
These community spotlights will be quick articles highlighting new achievements and initiatives in our community as well as featuring connect FROM OUR COMMUNITY. These spotlights will be featured on our Medium page and can also make it into our Monthly Newsletter. If you’d like to submit a person, organization or piece of content to be featured use this link (BLCK VC Community Spotlight).
We are excited to have you join us on our journey!
