Internship at Blibli.com
Internship at blibli.com is surprisingly interesting; I learn more than what I wish and experience more than my expectation.
As a Computer Science student, an internship opportunity in a technology-based company is a bliss. Today, many major IT companies promotes internship opportunities to introduce young programmers into their team. Interns are expected to learn the culture as well as technology from the company they worked on. One of those companies is Blibli.com, one of the largest e-commerce in Indonesia as well as the place i took my internship.
I was placed in the engagement team, which is in charge of the main website where users interact and purchase products. To my surprise, my 10 weeks of internship as a member of Blibli.com’s engagement team is full of unique experiences.
- Dive into production
As an intern, I was more or less a full-time team member, where i shared similar responsibilities with my team member with lower expectations. I also took part in every scrum routine such as sprint plannings and retrospectives, stand up meetings, etc. My daily assignments included fixing bug and adding new features in a spring MVC based website.
Working in this team as an intern is quite challenging, since all of my codes were going up to production where thousands of users will interact with. It took more caution, but ultimately felt rewarding. - Learn from various positions
The technology division consists of many different positions and teams, each with their own unique responsibilities. However, this did not limit me to learn from practically every team in the office. The open office concept where everyone walks around to meet each other is a great opportunity to know what is going on. I spend a lot of my time consulting with members from other teams, such as mobile developers, operations, PMs and PGMs. They are very keen to teach me about their works and responsibilities, and were very supportive by letting me join some cross-team meeting where i can learn much more about the depth of an e-commerce. - Interacting with pleasant co-workers
When I arrived at the office, I was immediately separated from my fellow interns from my university into the team. While i expected some awkwardness in the beginning, i was surprised on how well the team member welcome me into the team. They treated me like a fellow co-worker instead of an intern, which made it very easy for me to adapt into the environment. During my time with them, I eventually got a good view on the ups and downs of life as a salaryman, gossips around the office, and even conflicts among the team and with seniors. Much more than technical skills, I learned some valuable lessons from them, such as working in a team and dealing with unpleasant co-workers. - Participating in events
Blibli.com is never short on activities; seminar, discussions, bazaars, and even a massive outing event to celebrate the company’s birthday. It is especially interesting to newcomers who cannot expect what event would happen next. Personally, I never felt bored during the internship period with so many things going around.
Overall, working as an intern in Blibli.com was a very interesting and memorable moment, since I was able to learn more than I expected as well as experienced many things an intern would usually not.
